Start Date: 22 Ches 1493 (1:00pm)
Boss Hark Fight
Seeing giant rats eating on the body of a slain villager was too much for the Big Damn Heroes, and they jump into action. Galadhon jumps into the room brandishing his short sword, neatly skewering one giant rat. Aaron follows quickly with a Thunderwave spell, killing most of the remaining rodents of unusual size. Another rat dies from the arrow of Eliendar. The goblins in the room fight back and a goblin guard from a nearby room enters the fray. Houblon kills the guard with his long-sword. Within in 6 seconds, all the giant rats except one are dead and one of the goblins. The next round mirrors the first, with Galadhon crit-hitting a goblin and killing it, Aaron casting an Eldritch Blast and killing a goblin guard, Houblon kills the last rat. By the end of the round, all the goblins are dead.
In the room, the Heroes find nine spears, five clubs, two daggers, and six wooden shields, all taken from the villagers when they surrendered. The slain villager was Darthag Ulgar, who the Heroes find out was the proprietor of the Lionshield Coster trading post in Nightstone. In a holding pen, the party encounters Daphne Featherstone. a lady-in-waiting for Lady Vandar. Frightened by her ordeal, Morak Ur’gray, the dwarven innkeeper from the village, coaxed out of the caves.
In a nearby room, the Heroes find the treasure of the goblins in a dilapidated chest:
- A bloodstained leather case containing a complete set of thieves’ tools
- One matching pair of silver salt and pepper shakers
- A holy symbol of Silvanus carved from wood and inlaid with gold
After checking to make sure none of the goblins remaining in the caves were combatants (there weren’t) and ordered the surviving goblins to leave immediately. Then along with Morak and Daphne, the Heroes trudge back towards Nightstone, following the villagers they sent ahead.
Locked Out of the House
Once the party arrives at Nightstone, they find all the villagers are standing outside the village walls, and the drawbridge raised, denying villagers access. After repeated attempts, the party talks to Kella Darkhope. She tells the Heroes no one can gain entrance to the village. She has claimed this abandoned village as her own and sent for a magistrate from Waterdeep to document her claim. When the group claims Nighstone was not abandoned as there are 4 guards in the keep, Kella replies, “What guards?”
The Heroes wait to nightfall to sneak into the village, using a destroyed tower as the best vantage point to cross the moat waters. The crossing goes well and the Heroes gain access. They quickly seize the drawbridge towers and lower the drawbridge. The villagers, afraid of potential combat, will not enter.
The Heroes call out Kella and Xolkin Alassandar, who hole up in the stables. Eventually the Heroes and the two Zentarim agents reach an accord, and Kella and Xolkin ride out of the village unharmed. The villagers come back to Nightstone.
Next Few Days
Over the next few days, the Heroes help the villagers repair and rebuild. They find the two goblins, Gum-Gum and Bait dead in the barn with their throats cut. The Heroes find no evidence of the missing guards or the treasure in Lady Vandar’s room.
“Our Uber Ride is Here!”
After 3 days, the Heroes see an enormous tower floating on a billowy cloud a thousand feet overhead. The tower must be hundreds of feet tall, and its spire looks strangely like a pointy wizard’s hat. As the tower drifts closer, stairs made of clouds begin to form underneath it and descend towards the village. Fearing a return of the giants, the villagers hide in terror. However, the party climbs the stairs toward the floating tower. As they enter the tower, they encounter an old cloud giant descending through a hole in the ceiling. He has windswept white hair, a wispy white beard and a billowing purple robe adorned with gold stars. He looks at the Heroes, smiles and says, “Hello and welcome!”
